Nacoa welcomes new patron, Olly Barkley,
Bath & England

"Nacoa is a worthy cause and I intend to do the best I can to raise awareness of this hidden illness, an illness that’s close to home for me.
Alcohol abuse is everywhere and it’s not only the drinkers who bear the brunt. More often than not, it’s the family or close friends that are affected both emotionally and physically. The unconditional support that Nacoa offers is crucial. To know there is somebody on the end of the phone can sometimes be the difference that person needs to help them through the day, month and sometimes a lifetime.
Elektrik3 - The Olly Barkley Rugby Academies will pass on a unique insight to children about the game and healthy living. We have access to the top players and coaches in the Premiership as well as international names. This experience and expertise will be available to camp participants, whilst raising much needed funds to support the Nacoa Helpline."

"Helping children with alcohol-dependent parents is a cause close to my heart. Nacoa exists to listen and give children time to talk about what's troubling them, helping them to cope with difficulties and make positive choices for themselves."

Nacoa patron

"Alcoholism in the family is one of society’s best kept secrets. In families where alcohol is a problem, children are often deeply affected by the guilt of this secret, of not understanding why their parent drinks or how to help them get better. It can be a lonely place. But thanks to Nacoa, today’s children have someone they can to talk to without fear of exposure, and sometimes that’s all a child needs to help them through it. I’m proud to be a supporter of Nacoa’s vital work."

Children of Alcoholics Week is a campaign to raise awareness of the many difficulties faced by millions of children and adult children of alcohol-dependent parents in the UK often living in confusion and isolation. Growing up with a problem drinker in the family can have a lasting effect on the family as a whole. We want all those who are being, or have been, affected, to know that they are not alone and that help and understanding is available for them.
The next coaweek will be February 12th to 18th., 2012.
